What your AI can do with Cranes
Everything an AI connected to Cranes can read and change for you, and what stays in Cranes.
An AI you connect at https://usecranes.com/connect/mcp can do almost everything you do in Cranes, by asking in plain words. That includes Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, Grok, and any other app that adds tools by an MCP address. Threads are the one thing it can’t use: those stay in Cranes.
It works only with the thinking you chose for that AI when you connected it, and only as you. A member can do what a member can do in Cranes; owners and admins can do what they can. See Choose what an AI can use.
Bring your thinking to the work
Before work where something you’ve worked out could matter, your AI asks Cranes how your thinking bears on it, and answers with that in mind. See When Cranes comes in and How your AI uses Cranes.
Read
Ask for any of these, in your own words:
- Your workspaces, and the contents of each: Group › Topic › Page, the team’s topics, then each group’s, then your own.
- A whole thinking, a topic, or a page as it reads now, and who a page is shared with.
- What changed in your thinking since a date, what’s on your mind, and ways to use your thinking.
- Entries, newest first, one entry and what it taught, and how learning is going.
- Search across topics, pages, entries, and groups.
- What needs you: suggested reorganizations, choices to settle, and pages shared with you.
- People and their roles, your groups, where your work goes, teams you can join, connected sources, and, for owners and admins, the team’s activity and the AIs members connected.
- Your own settings for emails, keeping, and sharing.
Change
- Organize: rename, move, pin, archive, or restore pages and topics; keep a title through later learning; say you see a page differently now; highlight a quote; apply, set aside, or undo a reorganization; settle what needs you; start learning now. Your choices win over later learning, just as they do in Cranes. See Pin, rename, and move.
- Share: share a credited copy of a page, topic, or entry with the team or a group, share a page of your own live, and keep or copy pages others shared with you. See Share a page.
- Bring things in: add notes or a file (PDF, Word, text, Markdown) to your thinking, the team’s, or a group’s, and change an entry’s settings. See Add notes and files.
- Groups: start, rename, open, close, and remove groups, and add or invite people.
- The team: invite people, change roles and role titles, add email domains, choose where your work goes, join a team, or turn a personal workspace into a team.
- Sources: connect Slack, Linear, Jira, GitHub, Granola, or Notion (your AI gives you the link to approve), read one now, and change its settings.
- Your settings: emails, whether your AIs keep your ideas, what others see, and forgetting something that was kept. You can also send us feedback.
Your AI may also suggest a change on its own, like renaming a page that’s out of date, and asks before anything is removed or hard to undo. See Make changes from your AI.
What stays in Cranes
Some things you can only do in Cranes itself:
- Threads
- Your password, two-step sign-in, and single sign-on
- Billing
- Deleting your account or a team, and handing a team to a new owner
- Anything that changes what connected AIs can reach: what each AI may use, group switches for connected AIs, and the team’s connected-AI settings. An AI never widens its own access.
Set it up in your AI
Each AI has its own steps, and each decides differently how often to call Cranes on its own: Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, Grok, Meta Muse, and any other AI that supports MCP.
