Pin, rename, and move

Cranes arranges your chapters into parts, but you have the last word. Nothing here changes what a chapter says; it only changes how the book is laid out.

Pin

Pinning puts something first, for you alone.

• A chapter: choose ⋯ beside its title, then Pin. It moves to the top of its part and appears under Pinned on your front page.
• A part: open the part, choose ⋯, then Pin. It moves to the top of your contents.

Choose Unpin in the same place to undo it. Pins are always personal, even on shared thinking.

Rename a chapter

1. Choose ⋯ beside the chapter’s title, then Rename…
2. Type the new title and choose Save.

Your title stays as the chapter develops. If the chapter later drifts far from what it was when you renamed it, Cranes asks whether you want to Keep your title or Use Cranes’ title. To hand the name back at any time, choose Use Cranes’ title from the ⋯ menu.

Rename a part

1. Open the part.
2. Choose the pencil beside its name.
3. Type the new name and choose Save. Esc cancels.

Later reorganizing keeps your name. Let Cranes name it, in the part’s ⋯ menu, hands the name back.

Move a chapter to another part

1. Open the chapter.
2. Choose Move beside the part’s name, under the title.
3. Pick the part.

The chapter stays where you put it when Cranes reorganizes. The chapter page then says “You placed it in this part,” with Let Cranes place it beside it if you change your mind.

On shared thinking

On the team’s thinking, renaming and moving are for the team’s owners and admins. In a group, every member can do them. Pins are always yours alone. If you don’t see an option, that’s usually why.
