What connected AIs keep
What an AI keeps in Cranes from your work, what it only offers to keep, and what it never keeps.
Cranes keeps learning from the work you do in other AIs, but only from your own words, and never the work itself.
Kept as you go
With Keep my own ideas on for an AI, Cranes keeps your own thinking from a message, word for word: a position you take, a view you revise, a distinction, a judgment with its reasons, or a standard tucked into a request (“always write the migration first”). Your AI tells you in a few words that it did. When you ask it to keep something, or tell it how something turned out, it saves your words too. See Ideas saved from your conversations.
Offered first
Anything from earlier in the conversation is offered, and kept only if you say yes:
- Your corrections. When you corrected or redirected the work earlier on, your AI can offer to keep those words, in one short question.
- Your skills. When you write or edit instructions for your AIs, like a CLAUDE.md, AGENTS.md, or SKILL.md, your AI can offer to bring it into Cranes as a skill, under its name, word for word. A newer skill with the same name is kept beside the older one, and Cranes reads the newer as current.
A skill is never written for you. If you’ve corrected the same thing several times, your AI may ask whether you want to write it down as one. You write it; Cranes keeps what you wrote.
Never kept
- Your AI’s replies, summaries, or plans, as your words. You can ask it to save one, and it’s marked as written by that AI.
- The work itself: code, changes, files, documents, logs.
- Your AI’s description of what you’re working on.
- Bare requests and commands, like “run the tests” or “fix it”.
- Passwords, keys, and personal details your thinking doesn’t need.
- Someone else’s words as yours, like a teammate’s review comment.
- Anything from a conversation where you said to keep Cranes out, or from a general question Cranes stays out of.
Where it goes
What’s kept goes where you said: the team, a group, or your own thinking. Without a place, it goes where you chose your work goes; until you choose, to your own. A correction goes to the thinking that holds what it corrects. Every save says where it went, and says it was kept, not learned, until Cranes has learned from it.
Your entry settings hold on every path, including Don’t learn from this and Keep off connected AIs. See Entry settings.
Change or remove it
Everything kept appears in Entries, marked with the app it came from; choose Remove now to delete it. Turn Keep my own ideas off for one AI, or Let connected AIs keep my ideas off for all of them, in Settings › Connected AIs.
