Add a note or files

Put something straight into your thinking without starting a conversation.

Sometimes you just want to put something down: a view you’ve settled, a decision and its reasons, a document you wrote. Notes and files go straight into the thinking you’re reading.

Write a note

  1. Open Entries from the bottom of your contents.
  2. Choose Add, then Write a note.
  3. Write it, then choose Add note.

In your own thinking, Cranes reads it right away. In the team’s or a group’s, it’s learned in the next pass.

Add files

  1. Open Entries.
  2. Choose Add, then Add files, and pick one or more.

Each file becomes its own entry. Cranes reads the text in PDF, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Markdown, plain text, CSV, JSON, XML, and YAML files. A PDF or Office file Cranes can’t read, such as a scanned PDF, is refused. Other kinds of file are kept by name only, without their contents. A single file can be up to 25 MB.

You can also attach files to a message in a thread with the + beside the message box, or by dropping them onto the thread. They become entries when you send the message.

Where it goes

A note or file goes into whichever thinking you’re reading when you add it. To put something in the team’s thinking, switch to it first from the slip at the top of your contents, open Entries, then add it there.
