When your AI and Cranes don't connect
Fixes for the usual problems, from sign-in loops to an AI that seems to ignore Cranes.
It worked, then stopped
Connections last 30 days. When one runs out, your AI loses access until you reconnect. Remove Cranes in your AI app’s connector settings, add it again, and sign in. Your choices are asked again, and nothing in Cranes is lost.
If you revoked the connection in Settings › Connections, the same fix applies.
The connect screen says “Choose whose thinking it can read”
You unchecked everything. Check at least one, such as your own thinking, and choose Allow.
It can’t find a group
Your AI says something like “found nothing by that name”:
- Check the name. Cranes matches the words you use against your teams and groups, ignoring capitals, but it can’t guess a name you don’t use.
- Make sure you’re in the group. Groups you aren’t in look exactly like groups that don’t exist.
It says a group isn’t turned on
The group is off for that AI. Open the group’s People page and look at Connected AIs:
- If your switch for that AI is off, turn it on.
- If the whole group is off, its creator has kept it off connected AIs. Ask them.
- If it says the group is off until the person who started it allows it, ask the group’s creator.
- If the team keeps all groups off connected AIs, that’s a team setting. Ask an owner or admin.
It doesn’t seem to use my thinking
- Include
@cranesin your message to make sure it checks. - Check that the AI can use the right thinking in Settings › Connections, from the workspace you connected it to.
- Remember that most ordinary requests don’t need anything from your thinking. If there’s nothing relevant, Cranes sends nothing and your AI carries on as usual.
- If you’re in a team workspace and meant your personal one (or the other way round), say so. See Use Cranes from your AI.
It says Cranes is unavailable
Your AI tries once more, then carries on without Cranes and tells you. Try again in a few minutes. If it keeps happening, write to us with the app you’re using and roughly when.
It saved something to the wrong place
What you ask it to save goes into your own thinking unless you said it was for the team or named a group. Corrections of something Cranes brought in are kept where that came from. Open the right thinking’s Entries page, find the entry, and remove it with Remove now. Then ask again, naming where it should go.
