Any other AI that supports MCP
The address, sign-in, and settings for adding Cranes to any AI app or coding tool that connects to MCP servers.
Cranes connects to AI apps through MCP, an open standard many apps use to reach outside tools. Every app adds it the same way: one address, then you sign in to Cranes.
https://usecranes.com/connect/mcp
These steps work in any AI that lets you add an MCP server by its address. Some have their own pages: Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, Grok, and Meta Muse.
Settings to use
If your AI offers a setting called something like Connectors, Integrations, MCP servers, or Add custom connector, add Cranes there:
- Address:
https://usecranes.com/connect/mcp, added as a remote server (some apps call it HTTP or Streamable HTTP). - Sign-in: OAuth. Leave any API key, token, client ID, and client secret fields empty. There are no keys to create; the app registers itself with Cranes and sends you to sign in.
- Name: Cranes.
In Cranes, Connect your AI in the account menu shows the address with a copy button, and a ready-made link or command for each app it knows.
What happens when you sign in
The app opens Cranes in your browser. Sign in if you aren’t already, then choose on Connect … to Cranes what this app may use: your own thinking, the team’s, and each of your groups, in each workspace you belong to. Choose Allow, and you’re sent back to the app. See Connect your AI.
The app then lists what Cranes offers it. You don’t need to turn anything on one by one.
How long a connection lasts
Each sign-in lasts 30 days. Apps that renew their sign-in on their own stay connected as long as you use them at least every 90 days; others ask you to sign in again after 30 days. Either way, removing the app in Settings › Connected AIs cuts it off right away, and nothing in Cranes is lost when you reconnect.
If the app can’t register itself
A few apps ask for a client ID before you can sign in. Register once for that app with its exact callback address (the app’s own help says what it is), then give the app the client_id that comes back:
curl -s -X POST https://usecranes.com/oauth/register \
-H 'content-type: application/json' \
-d '{"client_name":"<app name>","redirect_uris":["<the app's callback address>"]}'
Leave the client secret empty. If the sign-in page then says This connection request is not valid, the callback address the app sent doesn’t exactly match the one you registered.
What’s automatic, and what depends on your AI
Everything in What your AI can do with Cranes works in any app that adds tools by address. A few things depend on what the app itself supports:
- A reader inside the app. Apps that can show MCP Apps, like Claude and Cursor 2.6 and later, open your contents and pages in a small reader. Others show the same as text. See Read your thinking inside your AI.
- Asking first. Apps that support it show their own Yes, make this change prompt before a change that’s hard to undo. Others ask in the chat. See Make changes from your AI.
- Shortcuts. Apps that show MCP prompts list Cranes’s shortcuts, often as slash commands.
- Calling Cranes on its own. Cranes asks every app to check with it before substantial work and to stay out of general questions, but each app decides when to call a tool. Type
