Ideas kept from your conversations
What Cranes keeps from your chats with other AIs, what it never keeps, and how to turn it off.
When you’re talking with a connected AI, you often say something worth keeping: a position you take, a view you revise, a distinction you draw, a judgment with its reasons. If you allow it, Cranes keeps those moments, word for word, so your thinking can learn from them. You don’t have to ask each time.
What it keeps
Your own thinking, in your own words:
- a position you take, or one you change,
- a distinction or connection you draw,
- a judgment with the reasons behind it,
- a correction of how Cranes or your AI has read you,
- a taste or standard, even when it’s tucked inside a request (“make it plainer, I hate throat-clearing”).
What it never keeps
- Routine requests and logistics
- Messages that are mostly pasted material
- Messages mainly about other people
- Sensitive matters: health, money, relationships, legal questions, passwords and other credentials
- Confidential work details: clients, deals, colleagues, unannounced plans
- Restatements of something it already kept from the same conversation
- The AI’s replies
What’s kept always goes into your own thinking in that workspace, never the team’s or a group’s.
See and remove what was kept
Each conversation Cranes kept something from appears in your threads list, among your own threads, marked with the app it happened in and named by the first thing you said there. Up to 40 of the most recent are listed.
Open one to see exactly what was kept: only your words, not the whole chat. Choose Remove beside anything you don’t want Cranes to learn from, and it won’t. When nothing kept from a conversation remains, it leaves the list; anything you wrote to continue it in Cranes stays as its own thread.
Keep going in Cranes
Below the kept words is a box to carry on the conversation in Cranes. Replies here see what you said there, in order, and the whole thing stays one thread in your list. Nothing is written back to the other app.
Turn it off
It needs both of these switches on, and your own thinking checked for that AI. Turning off either switch stops it:
- For every AI: Settings › Privacy, then turn off Keep my own ideas from those conversations.
- For one AI: Settings › Connections, choose Edit beside it, and turn off Keep my own ideas.
Turning it off stops Cranes keeping anything new. What was already kept stays until you remove it.
