Control how an entry is used
Stop learning from something, keep it away from other AIs, set it to expire, or delete it now.
Every entry has its own settings. Open Entries from the bottom of your contents, click an entry, and you’ll find them below its text.

Learn from this
Turn this off when you don’t want something shaping your thinking at all. It’s taken out of learning, out of what threads and connected AIs receive, and it stops supporting any chapter. Cranes asks you to confirm, because this can’t be turned back on. If you change your mind later, add the material again as a new entry.
The words themselves are still kept, and you can still read the entry. To delete the words, use Remove now.
Keep off connected AIs
Turn this on when something is fine for Cranes to learn from, but you don’t want its exact words quoted to ChatGPT, Claude, or any other connected AI, or in a Slack reply. It can still shape your chapters, and those chapters can still reach connected AIs, but only as Cranes’ reading, never as a quote.
You can turn it off again whenever you like.
Keep until
Pick a date. On that date the entry’s words are deleted and Cranes stops learning from it. Choose Clear to keep it with no end date.
Remove now
Deletes the entry’s words immediately and stops learning from it. Cranes asks you to confirm. The entry stays in your list as Removed entry, so you can see something was there, but its words are gone. If the entry was a message in a thread, its words are gone from the thread too, which shows “You removed this message” in its place, and later replies can’t see it.
What happens to your chapters
After you turn off learning or remove an entry, any chapter that rested on it is rewritten from what remains. It keeps its place, its name, and your choices. A chapter that nothing else supports is retired.
On shared thinking
In your own thinking you can change any entry. In the team’s or a group’s, only the person who added an entry can change it. Everyone else sees “Only the person who added this entry can change it.”
