Connect GitHub
For owners and admins, let the team’s thinking or a group’s learn from pull requests, reviews, and reverts.
Connecting GitHub lets the team’s thinking, or one group’s, learn from how your team reviews and ships code: pull requests, the reviews and comments on them, and what was merged, closed, or reverted. Only a team’s owners and admins can set it up, and only in a team workspace.
Set it up
- In Cranes, open Settings › Sources and choose Connect GitHub.
- Choose What it feeds: the team’s thinking, or a group you’re in. Then choose Continue to GitHub.
- GitHub asks where to install Cranes and which repositories it may read. Cranes asks only to read pull requests. Installing on an organization may need an organization owner.
- GitHub sends you back to Settings › Sources.
Cranes reads the last 30 days of pull requests straight away. After that, GitHub tells Cranes when a pull request or review changes, and Cranes also checks about every 15 minutes. To add or remove repositories later, change the Cranes app’s installation in GitHub; Cranes follows on its next read.
What becomes an entry
- Each pull request becomes one entry: its number, title, description, and whether it’s open, merged, or closed without merging. A pull request that reverts another says so. When it changes, the newer version replaces the older one.
- Each review with a written note, and each comment on the code, becomes its own entry, credited to its author’s GitHub name.
Entries are learned in the next pass, not one at a time, and a single review never becomes the team’s position on its own. Everyone who can read the thinking it feeds can see these entries, so connect a group only when its members may see those repositories.
Use it with your coding agent
Pair this with the line from Take it with you in your repository’s AGENTS.md or CLAUDE.md, naming the same team or group. Your coding agent then draws on what the team’s reviews taught, and the next reviews keep teaching it.
Disconnect
Only owners and admins see Revoke. It stops reading. Entries already brought in stay, with their usual entry settings. To remove the app from GitHub too, uninstall it from your GitHub settings; uninstalling there also stops the connection in Cranes.
