Start and run a group

A group is a few people who share their thinking in one place. Everyone in it reads the group’s thinking and threads and adds to them. No one else can, not even a team’s admins.

Groups work in both kinds of workspace. In a team, a group is made of teammates. In your personal workspace, you can invite anyone by email, and the group appears in each member’s personal workspace. Only the person who started it can share chapters into it from their own thinking.

Start a group

1. Click the slip at the top of your contents (it names whose thinking you’re reading) and choose New group.
2. Give it a name.
3. In a team, check the teammates who should be in it. In your personal workspace, type the email addresses of people to invite, separated by commas.
4. Choose Create group.

The group opens, ready for its first thread or entry. The confirmation also tells you which of your connected AIs can use it.

What happens in a group

• Threads started in a group can be read and continued by every member. It’s the only way to share a thread.
• Messages in group threads, and notes and files added to the group’s Entries, go into the group’s thinking.
• Replies in group threads draw on the group’s thinking, plus the team’s in a team workspace, and never on anyone’s own.
• Learning happens in passes, like the team’s thinking: each night, sooner when things pile up, and whenever a member presses Learn now.

Nothing from a group teaches anyone’s own thinking, and nothing reaches a group from your own thinking unless you share it.

Add people

Open the group’s People page from the contents.

• In a team: type a teammate’s name or email under Add by name or email and choose Add. If you type an email that isn’t on the team, owners and admins can invite that person to the team and the group together. Others are told who can.
• In your personal workspace: type their email and invite them. Group invitations last 14 days.

Any member can add people.

Remove, leave, or delete

• Remove someone: only the person who started the group can. Choose Remove beside them on the People page. What they shared stays.
• Leave: anyone can. On the People page, choose Leave. What you shared stays. If you started the group, the person who joined earliest takes over. If you’re the last one in it, leaving deletes the group.
• Delete the group: the person who started it can choose Delete. The group’s thinking, entries, and threads are deleted for everyone, and this can’t be undone.

In a team, owners and admins can see that a group exists, by name, and delete it from Settings › Groups. They can’t open it or read anything in it unless they’re a member.
