Use Cranes from your AI
Save things, correct Cranes, and point your AI at the team or a group, all in plain words.
There are no commands to learn. Once Cranes is connected, you talk to your AI the way you already do. A few habits help.
Make sure it uses your thinking
Your AI checks with Cranes on its own when your thinking might matter. To be sure, include @cranes in your message:
@cranes I’m deciding whether to take the Lisbon offer. What am I not weighing?
Save something to Cranes
Just ask. “Save this to Cranes,” “remember that I’ve changed my mind about this,” “that’s wrong, I don’t think that at all” all work. Your AI adds it to your own thinking as an entry and tells you once it’s kept. The exception is a correction of something Cranes brought in: that’s kept where it came from, which can be the team’s thinking.
If you ask it to save one of its own replies, the entry is marked as written by that AI, so it’s never mistaken for your words.
Work with the team or a group
Say who the work is for, and your AI uses that thinking instead:

For the team: here’s how we review pull requests now. Save it.
Cranes matches your words against the workspaces and groups you belong to, ignoring capitals. You can name a workspace, a group, or both, like @cranes accountable data. Naming just a workspace means “use that workspace”: your own thinking there plus the team’s, with saves going to your own.
When you say it’s for the team, or name a group:
- Your AI reads that thinking, plus the team’s when it’s a group in a team workspace and the AI may use the team’s. Your own thinking stays out of it, since the answer is for other people too.
- What you ask it to save goes into that thinking, credited to you, and is learned in its next pass. Asking explicitly starts that pass right away.
- Your own ideas that Cranes keeps from the conversation still go only into your own thinking.
When Cranes isn’t sure which workspace
If you belong to more than one workspace and your message could belong to either, your AI answers anyway and asks which you meant. In apps that can show it, a small picker appears: Which should this conversation use? Pick one and choose Use this. Elsewhere, just answer in the chat, like “use my personal workspace.”
Until you say, it uses your team workspace: your own thinking there plus the team’s. Anything Cranes keeps goes to your own thinking there, never the team’s. If you say within a day that it was personal, what was kept moves to your personal thinking before it’s learned from. Something you explicitly asked to save waits until you’ve said where.
If it says a group isn’t available
Your AI tells you in its own words. “Nothing by that name” means Cranes couldn’t match it to any of your teams or groups; check the spelling. “Not turned on for this AI” means your own switch for that AI is off. If it says the group’s creator or the team keeps it off, that’s their setting. See Choose what an AI can use.
