People and roles on a team
Owners, admins, and members, who can do what, and how to invite or remove someone.
Settings › Team lists everyone on the team, their role, and any invitations still waiting.
Roles
| Role | Can |
|---|---|
| Owner | Everything an admin can, plus invite admins and switch people between Member and Admin. The owner can’t be removed. |
| Admin | Invite and remove members, press Learn now on the team’s thinking, rename and arrange its parts and chapters, adopt chapters as the team’s, connect Slack, and delete groups. |
| Member | Read and add to the team’s thinking, keep their own thinking in the team, and start and join groups. |
Everyone, whatever their role, has their own thinking in the team that no one else can read. Being an owner or admin doesn’t change that.
Invite someone
- Open Settings › Team.
- Type their email under Invite by email. If you’re the owner, you can also choose whether they join as a Member or an Admin.
- Choose Invite.
People who already have a Cranes account join at once. Anyone else gets an email to sign up; the link lasts seven days. Pending invitations are listed as Invited.
Change someone’s role
Only the owner can. Pick Member or Admin beside the person.
Remove someone
Choose Remove beside them and confirm. The owner can remove anyone except themselves; admins can remove members.
When someone is removed:
- their own thinking in the team is deleted,
- they leave the team’s groups (a group they were alone in is deleted),
- what they shared with the team or a group stays, credited to them,
- they stop being able to use the team from connected AIs or Slack right away.
