When a page gets something wrong
Correct Cranes the way you’d correct a person, and why there’s no edit button.
Pages are drafts, and some will be off. There are two ways to set one straight.
It misread you: say what’s off
- Open the page.
- In the bar at the foot of the page, which reads Ask about the page’s title, or say what’s off, say what’s wrong in your own words.
- Send it.
A thread opens over the page, about the page, with your message in it. You can go back and forth until the point is clear. What you write is kept like anything else you write in a thread, and Cranes learns from it.
A page in Everyone or a group changes only when that place learns something. If your correction was kept in your own thinking, share it there. See Share a copy of an entry.
You’ve changed your mind
- Open the page and choose ⋯ beside the title.
- Choose I see this differently now…
- If you like, say what’s different. You can leave it blank.
- Choose Add it.
This adds an entry saying you see it differently. Cranes weighs it with everything else and may revise the page or retire it. A page the team adopted doesn’t offer this; see Adopt a page as the team’s position.
Why there’s no edit button
A page is Cranes’ reading of what people said, and it has to stay tied to that evidence. If anyone could rewrite the text, it would stop meaning “this is what the words show.” So a correction goes in as more evidence, and the page is redrafted from all of it. When it changes, it says Redrafted, with a note on what changed.
Other things that help
- The page rests on something it shouldn’t. Open N items under the first paragraph, open the entry, and choose Don’t learn from this or Remove now. The page is rewritten from what remains. See Change, share, or remove an entry.
- The page is fine, but you don’t want it. Archive it. See Archive a page or topic.
- Only the title is wrong. Choose ⋯, then Rename…
Corrections are learned a few minutes after things stop arriving in that place, like everything else.
