Read a page
What each part of a page tells you, from the entries behind it to what’s still open from it.
A page opens with its title, the place and topic it’s in, and a line beneath the title that carries its real question. The page reads as a short essay written to you, or to the team or group in a shared place. It may quote the exact words it rests on, with who said them and when, set two things side by side, or list tests, and most pages have one figure.
Under the first paragraph
A quiet row of links opens notes in a window over the page. Esc closes it.
- N items opens the entries the page rests on, in the words they were written. It’s the quickest way to check whether a page is fair. Search them, or use Filter to narrow them by Written by, From (the app each came from), and Learning. Open an entry to change how it’s used.
- Redrafted shows the draft number and date, with What changed and What stayed. Earlier wording isn’t shown, because it may rest on entries that have since been removed.
- Why it says this gives the reasoning behind each part of the page: Why it reads this way, How it shapes answers, Other possible readings, and What would change it.
The small logos beside them show which apps the page’s entries came from.
Talk about it
Some passages are set apart as asides. Choose one (Talk about it) to start a thread about it, right over the page.
The side column
Beside the text:
- Read it as appears when other places add to this page. Choose a place to see the page exactly as its readers do. See Pages that add to a wider page.
- Still open lists what’s still open from this page: a question, two sides of a choice, a view to test, or something that changed lately, each with when it last came up (“Vendor terms · 3 days ago”). Choose one and Cranes starts a thread on it, ending on the question for you to answer. The copy button beside it copies it for your AI, ready to send with @cranes.
The page menu
Share, the icon beside the title, shares a page of your own with people, by link, or publicly. The ⋯ beside it holds the rest:
- Pin or Unpin
- Rename… and Use Cranes’ title
- Move to topic
- Share what it says now, with the team or a group
- Move to the team or a group, on your own pages
- Archive or Restore
- I see this differently now…
What you see depends on the place and your role. See Pin, rename, and move, Share a page, Archive a page or topic, and When a page gets something wrong.
Below the page
Under the text you may see what other places add to it, or which wider page this one adds to, and any passage you highlighted that has since changed.
Ask about it
The bar at the foot of the page reads Ask about the page’s title, or say what’s off. What you send starts a thread about the page.
