Connect GitHub

For owners and admins, let Everyone or a group learn from pull requests, reviews, and reverts.

Connecting GitHub lets Everyone, or a group, learn from how your team reviews and ships code: pull requests, the reviews and comments on them, and what was merged, closed, or reverted. Only a team’s owners and admins can connect it, and only in a team workspace.

Set it up

  1. In the team, open Settings › Connected Services and choose Connect on GitHub.
  2. Choose What it feeds: the team’s thinking, or a group’s.
  3. Choose Continue to GitHub. Pick where to install Cranes and which repositories it may read. Installing on an organization may need an organization owner.

Cranes reads the last 30 days of pull requests straight away. After that, GitHub tells Cranes when a pull request or review changes, and Cranes also checks about every 15 minutes. To add or remove repositories, change the Cranes app’s installation in GitHub.

What becomes an entry

  • Each pull request: its number, title, description, and whether it’s open, merged, or closed without merging. A revert says what it reverts. When a pull request changes, the newer version replaces the older one.
  • Each review with a written note, and each comment on the code, credited to its author’s GitHub name.

Pull requests are learned with the next pass, and a single review never becomes the team’s view on its own. Everyone who reads the place it feeds can see these entries, so feed a group only when its members may see those repositories.

Use it with your coding agent

In Use in other AIs, copy the line under Have your AI use Cranes on its own, choosing the same team or group, and paste it into your repository’s AGENTS.md or CLAUDE.md. Your coding agent then brings in what the team’s reviews taught, and the next reviews keep teaching it. Type @cranes to make sure. See When Cranes comes in.

Disconnect

Only owners and admins can remove it. Choose Remove GitHub on the connection. Cranes stops reading; entries already brought in stay. To remove the app from GitHub too, uninstall it in your GitHub settings, which also stops the connection in Cranes.
