Open Cranes

Everyone, the team's thinking

The place in a team workspace that everyone on the team reads and adds to, and how Cranes reads who said what there.

Everyone is the team’s thinking: what the team knows and how it decides, its standards, its trade-offs, and who makes which call. Everyone on the team reads it and adds to it. It’s about the work, not about people, and it isn’t a log of what happened.

To open it, choose Everyone under Places. Its People icon lists the team, Entries shows everything it learns from, and Settings opens the team’s settings.

What it learns from

  • Notes and files people add to it in Entries
  • Copies of entries and pages people share with it from Just me or a group
  • Sources an owner or admin connects for the team, like Slack, Notion, Linear, Jira, or GitHub
  • What people ask their connected AI to save “for the team”

It never reads anyone’s Just me unless they share something, and nothing from it is copied into anyone’s Just me. What people add without naming a place stays in their own Just me.

Like every place, it learns a few minutes after new things stop arriving, so a busy day doesn’t redraft it over and over. Something shared or saved to it on purpose is learned straight away. There’s nothing to press.

How it reads who said what

Cranes reads the team the way a colleague who was there would, not by counting votes:

  • People set how things work in their own area. When the person whose work it is says how it’s done, the page says that’s how the team works, and who set it. Their role on the team helps Cranes tell whose area it is.
  • Silence isn’t agreement. If others saw it and said nothing, it stands, but the page never says anyone agreed unless they did.
  • Agreement makes it firmer. When people say yes, or start working that way, the page says so.
  • Pushback stays visible. When someone objects, the page names who and on what point, and the rest stays firm.
  • A later decision replaces earlier talk. When the person whose call it is settles it, that’s the practice now, told as a change.
  • Outside their area, it’s one view. Someone weighing in on another person’s area is credited with their view.

Differing views stay differing, not averaged. A page becomes the team’s formal position only when an owner or admin adopts it. See Adopt a page as the team’s position.

Pages from groups and Just me

A group’s page, or one of yours, on the same subject as one of Everyone’s pages can add to it. Only the people who read that group, or only you, see what it adds. See Pages that add to a wider page.

Arranging it

Anyone can pin and highlight pages for themselves. Renaming topics and pages, moving pages between topics, and archiving them change Everyone for the whole team, so only owners and admins can.
