Connect Linear

For owners and admins, let Everyone or a group learn from Linear issues and comments, and answer @Cranes in issues.

Connecting Linear lets Everyone, or a group, learn from the issues and comments in the Linear teams you choose, including how the work turned out. Only a team’s owners and admins can connect it, and only in a team workspace.

Set it up

  1. In the team, open Settings › Connected Services and choose Connect on Linear.
  2. Fill in:
    • Linear teams: each team’s key, separated by commas. It’s the prefix on its issue IDs, like ENG in ENG-123.
    • What it feeds: the team’s thinking, or a group’s.
  3. Choose Continue to Linear and approve read access. Your Linear account needs to see those teams.

Cranes reads the last 30 days of issues straight away, then changes about every 15 minutes.

What becomes an entry

  • Each issue: its ID, title, status, and description. When it changes, including when it’s reopened, finished, or cancelled, the newer version replaces the older one.
  • Each comment, credited to its author’s Linear name.

Issues are learned with the next pass, and a single issue never becomes the team’s view on its own. Everyone who reads the place it feeds can see these entries, so feed a group only when its members may see those Linear teams.

Ask @Cranes in an issue

  1. Open Linear in Settings › Connected Services.
  2. Under Mentions in Linear, choose Add @Cranes to Linear. A Linear admin approves it, and Cranes appears in Linear as its own user.

Then write @Cranes in a comment, like @Cranes how do we usually decide this is done?. Cranes answers in the issue from the thinking this connection feeds, and ends with whose thinking it drew on and a link to open it in Cranes. Everyone who can see the issue reads the answer. Ask it to check Linear, Notion, or GitHub and it looks there too. Reply to follow up or correct it; a correction is kept for the next pass.

Cranes matches you by the email on your Linear account, so use the same email as in Cranes. To stop, choose Stop answering in Linear.

Disconnect

Only owners and admins can remove it. Choose Remove Linear on the connection. Cranes stops reading; entries already brought in stay.
