What your AI can do with Cranes

Read, organize, share, and run your team from a connected AI, how it asks before anything hard to undo, and what stays in Cranes.

An AI connected at https://usecranes.com/connect/mcp can do almost everything you do in Cranes. Ask in plain words: “rename the onboarding page to First week”, “share the pricing topic with the design group”, “what changed in my thinking this week?”. That includes Claude, Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Grok, and any other app that adds Cranes by that address. ChatGPT brings in and saves your thinking, but doesn’t do the rest.

It works as you, with only the thinking you chose for it. It can do what you can do: if you’re a member, it can’t do what only owners and admins can, and it tells you Cranes said no.

Read

  • Your workspaces and their contents: the topics and pages in each place.
  • A page, a topic, or a whole place as it reads now, who a page is shared with, and how a page adds to a wider place’s page. See Pages that add to a wider page.
  • What changed since a date, what’s still open, and what needs a look.
  • Entries, newest first, and what one entry taught.
  • Search across topics, pages, entries, and groups.
  • People and roles, groups, connected sources, and your own settings. Owners and admins also see the team’s activity and the AIs members connected.

Change

  • Organize: rename, move, pin, archive, or restore pages and topics; say you see a page differently now; highlight a quote; settle what needs a look; start learning now. These are your choices, just as in Cranes, and win over later learning. See Pin, rename, and move.
  • Share: share a credited copy of a page, topic, or entry with the team or a group; share a page live; keep or copy pages others shared with you. See Share a page.
  • Bring things in: add notes or a file (PDF, Word, text, Markdown) to any place it may use, and change an entry’s settings. See Add notes and files.
  • Groups and the team: start and manage groups, invite people, change roles, add email domains, or turn a personal workspace into a team.
  • Sources: connect Slack, Linear, Jira, GitHub, Granola, or Notion. Your AI gives you the link to approve, and nothing connects until you do.
  • Your settings: emails, keeping, and sharing. You can also send us feedback.

Ask before you decide

Weighing a change, like renaming, moving, or archiving a page, or sharing it? Ask your AI what your thinking says about it. It tells you what it would change and what your thinking says. Nothing changes until you say yes.

Changes that ask first

Before anything that removes something or is hard to take back, your AI asks, naming what it touches: “Remove Sam from the team”. That includes removing entries, people, groups, domains, sources, or invitations; changing a role; moving a page or topic out of your own thinking; taking back a share; relearning; and turning a personal workspace into a team.

Apps that support it show their own prompt with Yes, make this change. Others ask in the chat. If you say no, nothing changes.

The reader, shortcuts, and attachments

In apps that show MCP Apps, like Claude and Cursor, asking for your contents, a page, or what needs you opens a small reader in the conversation:

  • Workspaces, then each one’s contents. Choose a page to read it as it reads in Cranes. Ask about this starts a conversation about it.
  • What needs you: pages shared with you, corrections from groups, questions from the team, and sources that stopped. Work through it asks your AI to help; Leave it as it is settles it.

Apps that list prompts, often as slash commands, offer five from Cranes: What changed in my thinking, What needs me in Cranes, Tidy my thinking (suggestions only, for you to confirm), How my team is doing in Cranes, and Bring something into Cranes.

Apps that let you attach things from a connected server can attach a page, topic, entry, a place’s contents, or your skills.

Everywhere else, you get the same as text.

What stays in Cranes

  • Threads. You can hand a thread’s work to your AI. See Hand off a thread.
  • Your password, two-step sign-in, and single sign-on.
  • Billing.
  • Deleting your account or a team, and handing a team to a new owner.
  • Anything that changes what connected AIs can reach. An AI never widens its own access, even when asked.

Entries kept off connected AIs can’t be read, named, or changed from an AI.
