When your AI and Cranes don't connect
Fixes for the usual problems, from an expired sign-in to an AI that doesn’t use your thinking.
It worked, then stopped
A sign-in lasts 30 days. Apps that don’t renew it on their own lose access when it runs out, and so does any app you haven’t used for 90 days or that you removed in Use in other AIs. Remove Cranes in your AI’s connector settings, add it again, and sign in. Nothing in Cranes is lost.
The connect screen says “Choose whose thinking it can read”
You unchecked everything. Check at least one, such as your own thinking, and choose Allow.
It doesn’t use my thinking
- Your AI calls Cranes when you ask. Type
@cranes, or ask what your thinking says. See When Cranes comes in. - To skip asking each time, add the line from Have your AI use Cranes on its own to its instructions. See Ask once in its instructions.
- In Use in other AIs, check that the AI can use the right thinking, in the right workspace.
- Most everyday questions don’t touch your thinking. When nothing applies, your AI says so in a line.
It can’t find a group or workspace
Your AI says it found nothing by that name:
- Check the name. Cranes matches your words against your workspaces and groups, ignoring capitals.
- Make sure you’re in the group. Groups you aren’t in look exactly like groups that don’t exist.
It says a group or team isn’t turned on
It’s off for that AI. Your AI’s link opens Use in other AIs at that row.
- If your own switch is off, turn it on.
- If the group’s creator keeps it off, ask them.
- If the team keeps groups or connected AIs off, that’s a team setting. Ask an owner or admin.

It used the wrong workspace
Say which you meant, like “use my personal workspace”. What Cranes kept quietly in the meantime moves with it if you say within a day. See When it isn’t sure which workspace.
It saved something to the wrong place
Without a place named, saves go to your own thinking, Just me. Open Entries, find the entry, and choose Remove now. Then ask again, naming where it should go.
It says Cranes is unavailable
Your AI tries once more, then carries on without Cranes and tells you. Try again in a few minutes. If it keeps happening, write to us with the app you use and roughly when.
