Start a team
Create a team workspace, or turn your personal workspace into one, and give Everyone something to learn from.
A team workspace has the same places as a personal one, plus Everyone, the team’s thinking. Each person on the team also has their own Just me there, which no one else reads.
Start a new team
- At the top left, choose the workspace’s name, then Start a team.
- Type the team’s name.
- Choose Create team.
You switch to the new team as its owner. A few short steps follow: how a team works, the groups it might want, where the team talks and writes, and who to invite. You can skip what you’re not ready for.
If you’re signing up for the first time, choose My team in setup instead. See Your first setup.
Turn your personal workspace into a team
If you’ve been using your personal workspace for work, you can make it the team instead of starting over.
- At the top left, choose the workspace’s name, then Turn into a team. It’s also at the end of Settings › Groups.
- Type the team’s name.
- Under What happens to your pages?, choose one:
- Bring them into the team’s thinking: everyone on the team reads these pages and the entries behind them, including what you kept from threads and connected AIs. Your Just me in the team starts fresh.
- Keep them as mine: they stay in your Just me, and only you read them. Everyone starts empty.
- Choose Turn into a team.
You can’t undo this. What happens next:
- Your groups become the team’s groups. The people in them join the team and get an email saying so; the dialog names them before you choose. Anyone with an open group invitation is invited to the team too.
- Your threads stay yours.
- Pages you’d shared live keep working if you kept them as yours. Pages you brought into the team stop being shared live.
- You no longer have a personal workspace. Choose Start my personal thinking in the workspace menu when you want one again. If you’re in a group someone else started in their personal workspace, Cranes starts an empty personal workspace for you right away, so you can still reach it.
Give Everyone something to learn from
Everyone starts empty. While it is, it offers Invite people and Connect a source to owners and admins. It fills from:
- people you invite,
- notes and files added in Entries with Everyone picked,
- copies people share from their Just me or a group,
- where the team talks, writes, and meets: Slack, Notion, Granola, and, if the team tracks work there, Linear, Jira, or GitHub. Each feeds Everyone or a group, as you choose. See Connect Slack.
There’s nothing to press. Everyone learns a few minutes after new things stop arriving. See Everyone, the team’s thinking.
